For the second year running, Weenect, the French specialist in GPS collars for dogs and cats, has surveyed its French, Belgian, Swiss, German and Austrian users to understand their behaviors during the vacations. The 2024 study, carried out among 1,828 customers, reveals a marked evolution in travel habits with pets, compared to 2023.
In 2024, 78.3% of pet owners plan to go on vacation with their companion, a significant increase on the 71.7% in 2023. This increase is particularly noticeable among cat owners, rising from 50.9% in 2023 to 65.2% in 2024. The desire never to be separated from their pet remains strong, with 66.6% of owners going on holiday with their pet to avoid separation.
Local destinations remain the preferred choice, with 68.3% of vacationers choosing to stay in their own country. The sea confirms its position as a preferred destination, reaching 44.1% in 2024. Private accommodations, such as rentals and second homes, are gaining in popularity, preferred by 63.5% of pet owners in 2024, compared with 58.2% in 2023.
Pet owners are increasingly concerned about hot weather and the risk of their pets running away. In 2024, 56.6% feared that their pet might run away, up by 11.3 points compared to 2023. To address this concern, 82% of Weenect customers use the Weenect XS GPS tracker during their vacations, ensuring greater peace of mind and a serene vacation for 91.1% of users.
80% of Weenect customers who use pet-sitting services use them during the vacations. However, for owners leaving without their pets, pet-sitting by relatives becomes the preferred solution. The fear of loneliness and running away is still present, but 93.4% of owners check on their pets, demonstrating their constant concern for their well-being.
